===PRESS 'L' TO VIEW IN LIGHTBOX - FULL QUALITY VIEW=== This enormous Cathedral is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe. It is absolutely magnificent at 525ft long, the Nave is 100ft high and the three towers rise in excess of 200ft. The Minster is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the world. The Transepts are Early English in style, and feature massive lancets. The Nave, the widest in the country, is designed in the Decorated style, it's chief glory being the Great West Window, with it's "Heart of Yorkshire" tracery. The West Towers, Central Tower and massive East End with it's 90ft high East Window, recently restored, are Perpendicular in style. All of these parts of the Minster harmonize beautifully together, which is not usually the case when buildings are built over many hundreds of years. The Minster has survived many fires over the years, the most recent being the 1984 fire, which destroyed the South Transept and threatened the whole building. It has been beautifully restored over the years.
