06/03/09 Since it's suppose to storm this afternoon.... I stopped at the nest earlier today. It was interesting to say the least. The female (Ma) and the chicks on the nest and the male (Pops) not in sight. The female did her best to get him to come to the nest and or bring fish. Apparently he was taking too long. She left the nest to fly to the trees and right back. Sometime later she flew out to the middle of the river to the sandbar. During low tide there is sandbar that all the birds visit. Pops was standing out on the sandbar. She flew out to him - not sure what was said.... but she sent him on his way. She returned to the nest to shield the chicks from the sun. Pops did get a fish, but took his good ol'time eating the head. hahaha... I guess he has a stubborn streak in him. Eventually he brought the fish to the nest, where the female began feeding herself and the chicks. This time she started with #3 and occasionally fed #1 while #2 waited. Also the older chicks #1 and 2 are getting their pin feathers. :-) and so it goes...... The Osprey at Blackwater NWR now have a chick... check out the Osprey cam Also if you have a chance and follow the cam and Blackwater blogs, give Lisa the webmaster a shout out! She does a great job on keeping everything updated.
