The Bastei is a famous landmark in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains of Germany. Situated not far to the southeast of Dresden, it has been a tourist attraction for over 200 years and the rock formations have inspired, among others, the German romantic landscape painter Caspar David Friedrich. The sandstone bridge was constructed in the year 1851 C.E. That morning I got up very early to be in time for the sunrise. Nevertheless, the tiny viewpoint was alsready occupied by photographers with tripods. I felt a bit ashamed, because I had been too lazy to carry my own tripod the long way up to the viewpoint. Fortunately, it turned out that after sunrise, the tripod was not really necessary, at least not for the wide-angle images I had in mind. I used my freedom to climb on the railing and I took these images with outstretched arms from the highest possible point of view. In that way, I could position the tree in the foreground, which is perhaps a rather unusual view of this scenery. Actually, this image consists of five photos with 16 mm focal length in vertical format. I combined them later with the panorama tool in Adobe Lightroom. The result is an extreme wide-angle view showing the sun and the moon in the same image (yes, the tiny white spot in the sky near the right border of the image is the moon).
