Mr. John Trotter is a Sacramento Bee photographer who was savagely beaten, brain damaged and left for dead in an unprovoked attack by gang bangers as he was carrying out a routine photo assignment in 1997 in Sacramento’s only ethnocentric neighborhood. After years of treatment, therapy and pain, Trotter is one again making photos. Unfortunately, most of Trotter’s sadistic attackers are once again prowling the streets, except those who have been rearrested for new crimes against others. Trotter was lucky in one regard: he had an employer which pulled out all the stops to ensure he had the best medical care money could provide. In a similar situation, most Americans with typical private insurance would drooling in a wheel chair today, waiting for a referral to a specialist. John's show was excellent.
