We took this from the top of the Muley Twist Trail hike in the southeast part of Capitol Reef National Park. You can see the Henry mountains arrayed before you and Notom Road below. The view goes from the main area of Capitol Reef to the north (left), almost to Lake Powell on the right. I did this hike solo about five years ago and saw a nice rainbow from this point. On the current trip we also saw a partial rainbow a few minutes after I took this panorama. The trailhead is just up the road from the Burr Trail switchbacks, then along a bouncy three-mile drive up the creek bed to the Strike Valley Overlook. From there the trail goes up the mostly flat creek bed for about four miles, where the creek becomes an impassable slot canyon. You can detour around this by climbing up on the east side. After half a mile you drop back down, then begin to climb again eastward to reach the summit ridge. From here you walk back along the ridge, descending after a couple of miles to the original trail. The trail guide says it's nine miles. My GPS said almost 11. You can find my GPS track here: connect.garmin.com/activity/399532624 There is no water on this hike unless it has rained recently. You can see five or six arches near the trail in addition to the striking views at the top. At the end of our trip, ladigue_99 and I agreed that this hike was the best. We also agreed that we wouldn't want to attempt anything that was more difficult. There were a few places that required moderate scrambling or ascending steep slickrock, and that was enough for us!
