In a case of a human being it is the female that has a beauty. In case of bird it is strange but true I have noticed that it is the male bird that has a beauty and the female bird looks ordinary. One such bird is the red wattled lapwing the male has a black crown on the head with red around the nose. It is called the sentinel of the forest because of its constant tit-ee-tit-ee-tit. The nest is a shallow bowl like depression in the ground. This is created by scraping and sitting in the same spot for some time. The eggs and the little ones too blend extremely well with the surroundings. One needs a lot of practice if one wishes to find the eggs or the nest of a lapwing. The lapwing doesn’t feed the little ones. She only helps them to find food. The little ones start eating on their own. They feed on termites, termite, eggs and molluscs. A characteristic of the lapwing is that if she senses any danger or sees any predator near her nest, she lands on the ground spreads her wings and pretends to be wounded. This act is called the broken wing display. Thus the predators attention is diverted and her little ones are kept secure.
