Despite being the favourite meal of the male sparrowhawks, there are still many greenfinches in Itchen Abbas. They are the most numerous song birds around here, they travel in groups and they tend to land and spend some time eating, (unlike the tits that are always on the move). Their numbers and habits mean they will probably remain the male sparrowhawks' staple diet here. The larger female sparrowhawks probably prefer pigeons.
