“Maintenance”, from Latin manus tenere (“to hold in the hand”). “To maintain”, to keep up; to preserve; to uphold (a state, condition etc.). In our society I sometimes have the feeling that this word is a bit outfashioned. “Replacement” sounds much more modern today. So it does not wonder, that working in the business of decelerating the second law of thermodynamics is actually not so well paid. And payment reflects our measuring system of value - right? From outside it looks as if mainly people from other nations seem to understand the importance of this job, as most people in this area come from abroad - needless to say from poorer countries with less educational background. So this picture shall reflect the value of maintenance. We would not have what we have without the work of people like the man in the left bottom corner. Time to get the perspective right again. Don't let this kind of work be unseen, unthanked and belittled.
