Stob is a Scots Gaidhlig term for a mountain peak. Quite apart the mountain itself (which is usually called a Ben or Beinn, e.g. Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain), its various peaks may receive a name. This photograph was taken from Stob Coire Raineach, one of the two Munro peaks of the mountain Buachaille Etive Beag. Right to left in photo are: Stob Dearg (the Red Peak of Buachaille Etive Mor), in the gap to the right is Stob Beinn a’Chrulaiste, to the left is Stob Mhic Mhartuin and the twin peaks in the far distance on the left are Stob Choire Claurigh and Stob Coire na Ceannain.
