Large (possibly old-growth) white pine along the Pine Trail, Tiadaghton State Forest, Lycoming County. The trail traverses a mature hemlock–white pine forest with many impressive trees—a relict, perhaps, of the so-called Black Forest that once covered the Allegheny Plateau region of north-central Pennsylvania. Sadly, the hemlocks are infested with the hemlock woolly adelgid, an exotic insect pest.
