This diorama in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum shows the destruction of Hiroshima after the detonation of the atomic bomb. The red stick on the left marks the hypocentre of the explosion that occurred at an altitude of approximately 180 metres. The majority of the buildings were built of wood and were immediately destroyed by the blast and subsequent firestorm. The few remaining structures were made of concrete. The structure in the centre is the remains of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, preserved today as the A-Bomb Dome memorial.
