This image shows an enhancement of the coloration of the backs (dorsal) side of the Atlantic mackerel, also known as Boston, Norwegian, or Scottish mackerel. This species of of fish is found in the temperate waters of the Mediterranean Sea, and the northern Atlantic Ocean. The figures found in the pigment of this species has cause a phrase "mackerel skies to describe certain cloud formations technically called the 'cirrocumulus' or 'altocumulus' clouds that occur at very high altitude and sometimes display an undulating, rippling pattern.
