Type Steam Tram Motor Kitson in store prior to THS starting initial restoration work in 1960's. Photo Brent Efford No 7 is shown here in Cathedral Square at the head of a line of trailers probably bound for Sumner. There is no visible evidence in this photo of the electric trams which would make their appearance in 1905 and which would see the removal of this length of track from in front of the Cathedral. She would be expected to pull 4 or 5 of the trailers with the rest assigned to a second steam tram. Photo c 1900 Identical tram No 8 is shown here working with a tip wagon in the McCormacks Bay quarry in the 1930s Parked in the trambarn doorway during major overhaul c 1984 Undergoing a steam trial following overhaul c1984 Kitson Steam Tram number 7 Date Built 1881 Written Off - Acquired by THS Early 1960's From Christchurch Transport Board Restored Early 1960's. First went into service on the opening of the Ferrymead Tramway in January 1968. Kitson Steam Tram number 7 is probably the most iconic vehicle in the Society's collection - and is depicted on the Society's logo. (This vehicle is generally referred to as "Kitty" by Society members.) It is believed to be one of only three Kitson Steam Trams that remain in existence, and the only one still in operating order.
