The enormous Priory Church in Christchurch is larger than one-third of British Cathedrals but one cannot appreciate its full size until within the churchyard - all 311' (91m) of it! The present building dates as far back as 1094 where the lower stages of the Nave dates from. However, most of the building dates from the 13-15th centuries, such as the massive West Tower, 120' (37m) tall. Even the North Porch is 50' (15m) tall and extends further into the churchyard than the Transepts do! The Church is one of only 18 in the Country to be rated as a '5-Star Church' by Simon Jenkins in his 'Englands Thousand Best Churches' book. Well worth a visit and its interior is also a stunning as the exterior.
