A wild turkey chowing down on pyracantha in somebody's front yard. The native turkeys of California were presumably very tasty, as they were hunted to extinction by the first wave of humans to settle here. In the early 20th Century, the Rio Grande Wild Turkey (M. g. intermedia) was introduced here as a game bird. They've established themselves very well and are a common sight in Northern California, even in semi-urban environments. Don't try to pet them, they're mean. Shot with my new Canon PowerShot G15, which I'm liking very much. Lens is at maximum focal length here.
