The Rings Loop Trail in Hole-in-the-Wall, Mojave National Preserve, gets its name from two sets of steel rings that have been secured to the wall of Banshee Canyon. These eliminate the need for stemming or chimneying for about ten feet in almost-vertical sections of the trail. When traversed in the clockwise direction from the trailhead, the steep part is uphill near the end of the one-mile loop. Except for the rings portion, it is a Class-3 walk but steep at the end. I could hear voices as I approached the steep and narrow part. I found about half a dozen Indians (Asian, not Native American) from Los Angeles. One of them volunteered to climb up and take these photos of me ascending. It was a fun little hike. This trail shares a trailhead with a six mile loop around Barber Peak. I hiked part of this trail and found the scenery and varieties of cactus to be worth the effort. I spent the night at the campground there. (By the way, this Hole-in-the-Wall is not the one that Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid made famous. It’s in Wyoming.)
