The castle Plankenwarth to the west of Graz, Austria, dates back to the 13th century. Its walls have a thickness of up to three meters. The medieval castle was expanded in the 18th century and is now a private property. According to a legend, the name of the castle derives from the fact that an unpopular landlord was slain by his subjects with planks. In fact, the name comes from the old-german word "planch", meaning "shiny", which refers to the originally magnificent interior of the castle.
