My daughter takes one last photo of the Cinemark Century Stadium 14. Known locally as "The Domes," the structures are to be demolished in the coming days. Several generations of people around these parts can tell about the movies they saw there. When the complex opened in 1967, it represented the height of movie technology – a curved, 70-foot-wide screen, four-channel sound and reserved seating for 960 viewers. In April of 1968, the film 2001: A Space Odyssey debuted in mind-blowing Super Panavision 70mm. A decade after opening, lines stretched around the complex for the first Star Wars. On January 18, 2016 the final films showed included Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The replacement theater on the same site will be one of those soul-less multiplex boxes corporations favor. "They put a parking lot on a piece of land / Where the supermarket used to stand. / Before that they put up a bowling alley / On the site that used to be the local palais." www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiKgQYxUnTs
