The Blessing of the Sun (Birkat Hachama) is said every 28 years when the sun is in the same place in the sky where it would have first shined when created by God. For those of you with at least a basic understanding of astrophysics, the concept of the sun's birthday may seem odd, but, oh well, it’s a tradition. I have absolutely no idea why it’s but once every 28 years. Weird trivia: this commemoration has fallen on the Passover Eve only dozen times in the last 5,769 years. Yup, we Jews keep track of stuff like that. "Blessed are You, Lord, our God, King of the Universe who makes the works of Creation." “ברוך אתה ה’ אלהינו מלך העולם עושה מעשה בראשית” Girl gave me a lot of static about going out in the driveway and blessing the Sun. The literal interpretation of Creation is not a part of the belief system here at Chaos Manor. That’s when I launch into a stirring rendition of Tevye the Milkman singing in Fiddler on the Roof: “Tradition! Tradition!” www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1238562925819&pag...
