Es probable que su construcción comenzara en 1535, pero en 1656 se planteó de nuevo el templo, procediéndose a su ampliación. En 1953 se reformó para añadir una torre y una fachada conveniente a la plaza del Mercado. Lo más importante de la decoración interior es la cúpula central, con lienzos antiguos de Matías Guerrero y Vicente Verdusan. Se conservan también en esta iglesia varios cuadros del pintor corellano Antonio González Ruiz, primer director de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
