Find a newspaper today and make a photo any way you like! #ds55 Enjoying this issue of the local Payson Newspaper's free giveaway (you find them in the free newspaper boxes around the region) and while i can get the stories online, reading the paper on the back deck is a relaxing experience (plus I get some starter material for the wood stove). The first issue for 2010 features this cover article on my all time favorite Phoenix area hiking spot the Superstions, about 50 miles south of here. It is some of the most rugged desert wilderness areas around, and has amazing trails and back country get aways. I did tons of solo backpacks in the late 80s and early 90s- the most exciting being the traverse across the high ridgeline that had 2000+ ft elevation changes at either end of the trail. I trudged the 5000 ft high peaks one January walking in snow. Then there is the magical canyons like Fish Creek, La Barge, and Peter's. Gotta get back to the 'Supes; winter and early spring hiking are the best; summer is deadly.
