The delightful village of Okeford Fitzpaine is in the Blackmore Vale, a beautiful valley. The church is set on a hill in the Village and is subsequently dominating. This is an interesting and impressively large church that is sited on slightly rising ground. Perhaps the most interesting aspect is the tower, which is a strange mixture of C14 and C15. The rest is Victorian 1865-6. The Tower contains a difficult ring of 6, Tenor 10-3-4 in G. All cast by Thomas Mears in 1819/1820 except the treble which is a Mears & Stainbank bell from 1906. A tragedy occurred in 1951 when the vicar was showing some children the bells when the 5th bell overturned, swung round and killed him!
