The male cuckoo often spreads his tail when he sings. After a few "cuckoos" this male adopted this posture for about 20 seconds. This could have been displaying to a female attracted by his call or it could have been his Threat Posture, as I had recently seen males competing to call from this very popular tree and he could have been warning other males to go away. Just in the context of his behaviour, following his call and with no other males approaching that I could see, I think he was displaying to females in close proximity. But the truth is - I'm not sure! By the way - I'm certain it's not the same bird I posted yesterday. Click on image to see large on black.
