Sunset over Loch Voil and the village of Balquhidder in Scotland taken from Creag an Tuirc (The Boar's Rock) which towers several hundred feet above the village. Directly below this viewpoint is Balquhidder Church and the grave of 'Rob Roy' MacGregor, romantic outlaw (and cattle rustler). The church yard dates from the 8th Century CE. Creag an Tuirc is also the motto and battle cry of Clan MacLaren and features on their coat of arms. The outcrop of rock high above the village was used as a vantage point from which lookouts sentries of Clan MacLaren could spot danger from invading clans back when we, Scots, were a wee bit less civilised and fought amongst ourselves (in fact, now I think about it, very little appears to have changed). However the MacLarens were ousted from Balquhidder by the MacGregors in 1558, when they slew the Clan chief and many of his warriors. Perhaps the lookout was sleeping on the job : )
