Tech. Sgt. Amanda Gaudet (center), a loadmaster with the 312th Airlift Squadron, describes C-5 Galaxy cargo operations to civilian employers attending Team Travis Employer Appreciation Day, Aug. 19, 2012. Gaudet's civilian employer is Scott Wierenga (far right side), a senior supervisor with Genentech in Vacaville. The annual program helps give civilian employers context to better understands the vital contributions their employees make to the defense of America. As in past years, the program was supported by volunteers from the California state chapter of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The ESGR is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment. Civilian employers play a critical role in the defense of the nation by complying with existing employment laws protecting the rights of workers who serve in the Reserve component.
