Driving dynamics With the optional 18-inch wheels, summer tires and firm suspension, the Ford Focus Titanium's ride and handling are comparable to expensive sports sedans. It's tight, confident and smoother than you should expect for under $30k. The personality is distinctly European, reminding me of BMW 3-series. No big surprise here, since the car was designed by Ford of Europe for production worldwide. Mine was made in Wayne, Michigan, but nearly identical cars are assembled in Germany and Russia. Noise, vibration and harshness, the hallmark of small Fords since the Model T, are conspicuously absent. By far, the weirdest thing about this car is the key, or lack thereof. It's a transmitter you hang on your key chain. When you walk up to the car, it does the radio-frequency thing and unlocks the doors. Sit down, buckle up, put your foot on the brake and press the on-off button: the car starts. It's weird. I keep fishing the "key" out of my pocket when I walk up to the car. Next time I drive the Miata I'm sure I'm going to buckle up with my keys in my pocket and start hunting for the on-off button. Doh! (Review continued in next picture)
