For ten years I had been thinking about hiking the loop from Sooner Rocks down Sooner Wash into Fortymile Gulch and then Willow Gulch, and back cross-coountry to Sooner Rocks. I had hiked parts of this loop but hadn't completed the part from the drop into Sooner Wash and past the waterfalls in Fortymile. It took me a bit over seven hours to cover the 14-mile loop. The canyon gets quite narrow in places and the water gets chest-deep. This photo comes from Fortymile Gulch close to the confluence with Willow Gulch.
