Bald Eagle State Forest, Clinton County. This area of the state forest, spanning mountain summits and stream valleys, has unimproved (dirt- and gravel-surfaced) roads that most vehicles can safely negotiate. Riansares Road does, however, present a nasty surprise on the south side of Riansares Mountain—a mile-and-a-half-long stretch where the surface changes from smooth dirt and gravel to a sea of jutting, protruding rocks. The road there is also steep, winding, and (in spots) rutted. A rough ride, even for my high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle.
