Flower Children were long gone from the Haight in the 1980s and '90s, when I lived within walking distance. It was a fairly tough neighborhood, but it was worth running the gauntlet of panhandlers for the edgy shops and delightful restaurants. The panhandlers have been replaced by a non-stop cavalcade of tour busses - I can't say it's an improvement. Be that as it may, the street still has it's charms ... and couple of restaurants I want to try.
