What was once a desiccated and neglected area of Phoenix has been given life by the introduction of reconstituted waste water. The Tres Rios Wetlands is a constructed wetland complex for waste water treatment at the confluence of the Salt, Gila, and Aqua Fria Rivers in the of Phoenix area. The ponds, creeks, and wetlands, provide crucial habitat for migrating and resident birds. More than 150 species of birds have been spotted in the area.
