Believe it or not (no just believe it) where I live in Arizona (6000 feet elevation) air conditioning is not needed. But this week in June (usually it's the first week in July), it starts to heat in the day time, and I saw temps of 101°F outside. Until the summer monsoon storms come to cool things off, I can keep things comfortable with old fashioned evaporative cooling-- in a dry climate, the process of water evaporating takes energy out of the environment, thus cooling the air. Add a fan, and you have a cooling effect. Hanging a wet towel on the door, and an extra fan, reinforces my system. I'm cool (inside).
