I asked if it was OK for me to sleep in my truck on the San Carlos Reservation and they said OK. I was out on Peridot Mesa and wanted to do some time-lapse star video, even though the full moon was too bright for optimal results. But, as it turned out, the clouds started moving in at sunset, so the whole thing was a bust. But I set the D7000 up anyway in a field of yellow flowers, taking a shot every 30 seconds. This field was at the end of a double-track trail which was several miles down a dirt road. I thought that it would be a secluded enough place. After I climbed into the back of the truck and had just dozed off, a bright flash of light woke me. Somebody was driving by on a nearby road and painting my truck with a very bright spotlight. This went on for maybe a minute, then they disappeared. Here's a frame from the time-lapse. My truck was parked at the end of a trail on the far right. There was an excavation, maybe a peridot mine, just at the end, so there was no way out except for the way that I entered. I never woke up enough to get really scared. But I was starting to think about what I would do if anybody approached on foot. Probably it was the Tribal Police out on patrol. I'll never know.
