The brick-shaped Argus C3 was an entry level 35mm camera made huge numbers in the middle of the 20th Century. The simple Bakelite plastic and metal construction ensures many of these rangefinder cameras will still be around long after the glaciers come back. While the camera accepts contemporary 135 format film, the exposure controls on the Matchmatic model are unique. This model, which originally came with a coupled light meter, uses "additive" numbers for the lens openings and shutter settings. For example, setting #5 is 1/30 sec and the setting #6 is 1/60. On the lens, #6 is f/8 and #7 is f/11. As one who is used at normal f-stops and shutter speeds, these make my brain hurt.
