This spot wa s a few years ago just a pile of dirt with some manzanita growing it (which are fire hazards). I've turned it into my prime iris garden, moving them in from elsewhere around the yard. The do really well when they are a bit crowded, and they get some regular water. Ones elsewhere that I do not water as much are a bit less robust. I also cut them almost down to the ground in the fall, so they put their energy into their bulbs. My time spent outside tending the flowers and trees yields valuable metaphors.
