Auld Reekie - or as some call it, Edinburgh, capital city of Scotland. Auld Reekie means 'old smoke' - reek in the Scots language meaning smoke. There is also a favourite Scots saying, 'Lang may yer lumb reek' (in the English - long may your chimney smoke with other peoples coal). The saying is a salutation wishing long life and prosperity. I processed this photo by running it through a bleach bypass which brings out the stonework in the buildings in the foreground which are a few hundred years old. The photo was taken from Calton Hill. The big lump in the distance on the left is Edinburgh Castle where we keep another old stone (The Stone of Destiny).
