My very old, cheap, barbecue died the other day- it must be at least 10 years old. But rather than toss it into the waste stream, in keeping inline with a new concept I am excited about -- Unconsumption -- I had an idea how to make use of it. After removing the tubing and mechanics, I filled the bottom with a layer of rocks, and then soil (actually mostly from my compost bin- right in front of it), and made it into an herb planter -- I have there growing ( hope) oregano and parsley.
