This male osprey was captured delivering the fatal bite to this fish on Tigertail Beach, Marco Island, Florida on 16 April 2012. This was the second time I photographed the whole sequence from the time the osprey landed on the eating post until the osprey had its fill. Unlike the first time, I was ready for the osprey to spread his wings as he took the fatal bite. I used my 100-400mm zoom lens and came back as the wings opened. I watched ospreys eating their fresh catch many times in the last six months, for the record, the first bite was always in the fishes mouth.
