The biggest Sacramento news story of the day reads like something out of an action movie. Some low-life tried to burglarize an auto machine shop. When the cops showed up, the perp shot at them, then carjacked an Ford F-150 pickup truck from some poor guy getting his morning Starbucks. Perp crashes the truck on the Yolo Causeway (which I traverse every day on my commute), jumps off the elevated freeway. He hotwires a giant tractor (I’m not making this up). When the tractor dies, he hops off and clocks a birdwatcher on the head and steals HIS Ford F-150 (why he has such a fondness for Ford trucks we'll never know). The birdwatcher’s truck is recovered only minutes away from my own neighborhood. Perp is still at large. Result: The 80 Freeway closed for six hours, thousands of commutes messed up, long-line truckers late, traffic snarled to epic proportions, hundreds of people miss their flights at Sacramento International, the cops are very, very pissed.
