Giant old-growth hemlock, Wayne County, within State Game Land 312. This part of the Pocono Plateau was once covered with a virgin forest of hemlock, white pine, red and black spruce, balsam fir, and northern hardwoods. The forest was largely logged off more than a century ago; however, a few old-growth trees remain. A striking reminder of the logging era are the many weathered, often fire-blackened stumps of felled white pines.
