This World War 1 Memorial, completed in 1929, is miles from nowhere, on a hillside in rural Washington, overlooking the Columbia River. The landowner believed erroneously that the original Stonehenge was a sacrificial site, and constructed this replica to remind us that humanity is still being sacrificed to the god of war. I've heard about it for years, but this was the first time I've ever driven past it with time to stop. It was a dreary day, with just a touch of color before sunset, but somehow appropriate. #52 - Out of Place (116 pictures in 2106)
