Romsey Abbey is a magnificent Norman church, 225ft long and the interior 70ft high, rather exceptional for a Norman building. The Abbey is one of the finest examples of Norman architecture anywhere in England, and is much loved by the townspeople. The Abbey dominates the town centre and can be seen across the valley. The Abbey's Central Tower houses 8 beautiful bells, the tenor bell weighing 22-1-23, or 1141 kg. The bells are uniquely hung in a wooden octagon on top of the tower, after the Campanile was demolished, and the Central Tower was never completed. The bells are known as being one of the finest rings in the Diocese.
