My lucky streak of spectacular sunrises at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge continues. The folks at Best Western in Socorro didn't give us the requested 5:30 am wakeup call, so we had to hustle. As we were approaching the refuge, the sky started to light up and it was uncertain whether we would get there in time. We arrived with a couple of minutes to spare. This is the last of three shots, and soon afterward the colors started to fade. This is at the main pond just to the left after you enter past the collection booth. A bit farther up the road, at the Flight Deck, there were maybe 100 people waiting along the shore for the snow geese to wake up and fly out. Which they did, about a half hour later. It's an impressive experience to watch thousands of geese take to the air all at once, and fly away.
