Netley Abbey is a beautiful ruined Cistercian Abbey - perhaps the best preserved in the South of England. The whole site is very tranquil and is owned by English Heritage (free entry!). After Dissolution by Henry VIII, the site passed to Sir William Paulet who knocked down the Central Tower and turned it into a turret, knocked down some of covent buildings and turned the whole site into a mansion. By the 18th Century, the site is like it was today.
