Dad mailed Mom’s ashes here, but they were not delivered. The tracking number showed the package was out for delivery a week ago. Hmmm. This leaves three outcomes: #1. They were delivered to my porch, but somebody stole the package. Which creates unsettling the picture of some meth-head thinking her ashes are drugs and trying to snort them. #2. Mom’s forever lost in the purgatory of the U.S. Postal Service. That “solves” the problem of the ultimate disposition of her remains, but leaves us with the surreal obligation of leaving flowers in front of mailboxes on her birthday. #3. Her remains were at the Post Office; which of course they were.
