Hemlocks growing from rock outcrops near the base of Flat Top, Wyoming County, within State Game Land 57. These hemlocks are barely clinging to life. The hemlock woolly adelgid, an exotic insect pest, has heavily infested the lower elevations of the mountain. The infestation is especially severe along White Brook and its surrounding steep slopes; there, most hemlocks are dead or dying.
