Parking-area trail board at Rider Park, Lycoming County. The 867-acre nature park is on the Allegheny Ridge, a prominent section of the escarpment separating the Allegheny Plateau from the ridge-and-valley region. An extensive, well-blazed trail system traverses forests and wildflower meadows in a scenic mountain setting. Highlights include several vistas and the ruins of two homesteads. Fog and long periods of heavy (sometimes torrential) rain characterized the weather during most of my visit. The sun briefly broke through the gloom from time to time; however, the weather didn’t improve significantly until dusk. The misty, low-light conditions were bad for shooting landscapes but ideal for shooting the forests.
