At the Pine Thrift store today, I picked up this VHS version of The Man in the Suit starring a very young, nowhere near Obi Wan Alec Guinness. Sidney Stratton is the young, whacky, genius, toiling away at textile mills where he manages to sneak in the research labs. Ultimately he produces a miraculous invention, a cloth that is indestructible, never dirties. Expecting to be rewarded and revered for his discovery, Stratton ends up being hated both by the factory owners and the workers, all of whom realize that such a product will be the ruin of both their worlds. So to make a stretch of a metaphor, let's some say that someone invents something in education that one face value would be amazing but all would fear that tis spread would undermine their establishment. Could that ever happen? What is the white suit?
