The two dominating towers of the Minster. The Central Tower, is 84' tall but is far wider then West Tower. It is the oldest part of the Minster and once contained a tall spire approximatly 175' (53m tall). The lower part of the Central Tower was built soon after 1043, the upper stories were built between 1120 and 1180. Some time during the next century, the spire was built on to the Central Tower. Fast-forward 284 years and the West Tower is now completed. However, in 1600, the spire fell down in a storm. In 1911, the 8 bells in the West Tower were recast to form a gouregeous 29cwt 10. In 2012, these were augmented to 12 by Whitechapel Bell Foundry. They also added a 2nd Sharp. (12), 29-2-20 in D. Also 2nd Sharp.
