I'll probably go through a package or two of film before figuring this camera out. I used the macro lens, but still not what I was trying to compose, even using the parallax guide. Anyhow, I did cover the flash with my fingers, but used the lighten mode (electrical tape on the flash next time?). I'm guessing the lighten mode changes the shutter speed to a slower setting (?) - I'll have to look that up. Also need to dust off the print before scanning next time - a dust magnet I learned. The sandwich was great though and now for a nap I go!
