The magnificent Abbey in the town of Romsey is a major example of Norman Architecture. It dominates the small town despite the crossing tower only rising 1 story above the Roof level. It reaches 105' (32m) above the floor level. The exterior walls are 70' (21m) tall to the wall plates! The entire massive building is 263' (80m) long and it formed the 2nd Largest Church in Hampshire, with the exception of Winchester Cathedral. It is therefore the largest Parish Church in the County. It is a remarkable survivor of the Dissolution as the town brought the Abbey back. The Tower, which has a unique wooden octogan housing the bells, holds a beautiful 23cwt 8, in the key of Db.
